It's no surprise that a large amount of the goods we purchase in America are actually made overseas and imported. To our generation, that is the norm. But it didn't always used to be this way. Statistics show that in 1960 only 8% of American's purchases were foreign goods. Today almost 60% of our purchases are made overseas.
I believe that being the owner of a small business in America today is a huge responsibility. When I began planning my new venture - Virago Fitness, I was faced with several important questions relating to manufacturing. Naturally, being the surviving spouse of a United States Marine, I was extremely adamant about choosing wholesale products that are manufactured here in the US.
My military affiliation and patriotism was the driving force behind that decision, but when I really started looking into it, I found that not only am I supporting my country, but by selling products manufactured in the US I am potentially creating jobs. According to Economy.com, "If every American spent an extra $3.33 on US made goods, it would create nearly 10,000 new American jobs." Can you imagine? $3.33. That's it.
As Virago expands, we plan to build a manufacturing facility in the United States and employ mainly American Veterans and their families. All Virago apparel and products will be manufactured in-house. We have to take care of the men and women who fight for our freedom. The opportunities we have in America, such as the opportunity to start your own business, are because of them. Let's support our troops, and AMERICA, by buying American-made products.
Please help us with our mission to create jobs for veterans by sharing this with your friends.
